Fallout 3 Discussion Empty
PostSubject: Fallout 3 Discussion   Fallout 3 Discussion EmptyMon Oct 05, 2009 2:11 pm

Not only is the game itself Epic but with the new add-ons after been released and more on the way this game is getting more and more epic.

So here we discuss all things Fallout 3, our thoughts and the cool stuff we have done and seen.

If you do not have this game yet then get on the 13the of October, The Game of The Year Edition, which comes with all add-ons.

About Fallout 3
Fallout 3 is a post-apocalyptic computer and console action role-playing game developed and published by Bethesda Softworks as the third installment in the Fallout series and a sequel to Interplay's Fallout and Fallout 2. It was released on October 28 in North America, on October 31 in Europe and on December 4 in Japan. It is available on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game takes place in the year 2277 on the East Coast of what used to be the United States of America, mostly in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. The gameplay features include real-time combat and first or third person perspective, in contrast to the previous games, which were turn-based and isometric.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world following The Great War between the US and China, a conventional and nuclear war that occurred on October 23, 2077 and lasted less than two hours despite causing immense damage and destruction. Before The Great War were the Resource Wars, during which the United Nations disbanded, a plague rendered the United States paranoid, and Canada was annexed.

The Player Character is a young inhabitant of Vault 101, a fallout shelter in the Washington D.C. area. The vault has reportedly been sealed for 200 years until the player's father opens the only door to the outside world and disappears without any explanation. The Vault Overseer believes that the player was involved in their father's escape, and sends the vault's security force to arrest him. This leaves the player little choice but to also escape from the vault, with the hope of locating his father and finding out why he left.

Add-Ons

Operation Anchorage
Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. Gain access to unique armor, weapons, and exotic gadgets while you build and command interactive Strike Teams to win the battle and defeat the Chinese base.

This is the First Add-On.

In this add-on, the Brotherhood of Steel Outcasts are trying to acquire advanced military tools, and the only way to enter the vault containing these relics is by completing a military virtual reality simulation. But, none of the Outcasts have a Pip-boy, so it comes down to you to go inside the simulation. In the simulation the player fights in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe: the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from invading Red Chinese troops. The simulation is set between June 2076, when the T-51b Power Armor was first introduced, and January 2077, when Chinese forces were completely driven out of Alaska.

Once the add-on is downloaded, the quest objective for Operation: Anchorage will be activated by a radio broadcast stating, "This is Defender Morrill, any Outcasts listening on this frequency report to sector 7-B, Bailey's Crossroads. This is a high-priority message, backup is needed at our location. Any personnel listening on this frequency please report at once." A marker will appear on the world map. The add-on can be played at any time after the player exits Vault 101 at the beginning of the game. After completing the simulation, new equipment will be unlocked for the player to use in the rest of the game.

In the Simulation, the player is stripped of any equipment and weapons (excluding quest items) and forced to utilize the resources supplied throughout the simulation's environment. The Chinese Red Army is everywhere, and the player first has to secure the surrounding mountain side and then fight their way into the Chinese base. The player has to use a lot of their standard combat skills, along with several new tools that are only available in the add-on. These include interactive strike teams under the player's command as well as unique armor, weapons, and other exotic gadgets. Throughout the simulation various pieces of intel are also hidden that yield the Covert Ops perk when all are collected.

Also in the Simulation, the player is introduced with a new system, which instead of healing with Stimpaks, you will have Health Dispensers that will fill your health completely. You will also have Ammo Dispensers in most of the places. When people die, you won't be able to search them or take their weapon.

The Pitt
The Pitt allows you to travel to the post-apocalyptic remains of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and become embroiled in a conflict between slaves and their Raider masters. Explore a sprawling settlement ravaged by time, neglect, nuclear radiation, and moral degradation. The Pitt is filled with morally grey choices, shady NPCs, new enemies, new weapons, and much more. ”

The Second Add-On Pack

In this add-on, the player journeys to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. In contrast to Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt involves a more traditional questline with several morally-ambiguous choices. The main quest involves the player taking on the role of a slave in order to investigate rumors that the Raider boss of The Pitt has discovered a cure for mutations. The expansion features 4-5 hours of additional gameplay.

Broken Steel
Continue your existing Fallout 3 game and finish the fight against the Enclave remnants alongside Liberty Prime. Broken Steel moves the level cap for your character from 20 to 30, allowing you to experience even more of the game, including new perks and achievements.

The Third Add-On Pack

In this add-on pack, the player joins the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel to rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all.

In addition to amending the game to let players continue their adventures after the end of the main quest and raising the level cap to 30, Broken Steel's quest line is of the same length as the ones of Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt. In order to access the new story content from Broken Steel, the player has to have finished the main storyline from the base game. However, the level cap expansion will take effect upon installation of the add-on, so players previously stalled at level 20 will once again accumulate XP even if they haven't finished the main storyline.

Broken Steel also adds a couple of new side quests, most of which have to do with escorting freshly processed clean water across the Wasteland and protecting it from raiders. Broken Steel takes about five hours to complete and side missions could take up to an hour to finish.

The third add-on for Fallout 3 adds new enemies including Albino Radscorpions, Feral Ghoul Reavers, Super Mutant Overlords, and Enclave Hellfire Troopers. These are equipped with new armor and weaponary which the player can acquire. Broken Steel also adds several new perks to cover the additional 10 levels as well as new encounters. (see Broken Steel encounters)

The player's action throughout Fallout 3 is woven into some of the quests in Broken Steel. For example, if the player decides to infect Project Purity with the modified FEV, it will affect how the Capital Wasteland looks as well as the interactions with the local inhabitants.

Point Lookout
Point Lookout opens up a massive new area of the Wasteland – a, dark, murky swampland along the coast of Maryland. So hop on the ferry to the seaside town of Point Lookout, for the most mysterious and open-ended Fallout 3 DLC adventure yet.

This is the Fourth Add-On Pack and is available from the Playstation store on the 8th of October.

Point Lookout takes place in the Fallout equivalent of Point Lookout State Park, a new swampland area with new quests and enemies. Point Lookout in the Fallout setting has a landscape between one sixth and one fifth the size of the Capital Wasteland where "the bombs didn't actually fall, but the world has left it behind".

Like all add-ons except for Broken Steel, Point Lookout is playable before finishing the main quest. You receive a message on-screen that initially starts the quest The Local Flavor. As with previous add-ons, the main questline is said to add about 3 to 4 hours worth of game time.

Followers cannot follow you to Point Lookout, but you are able to travel back to the Capital Wasteland with the Duchess Gambit anytime, which means you can spend as much time as you like exploring, and still head back home when need be. It takes a month to travel to Point Lookout.

Mothership Zeta
Defy hostile alien abductors and fight your way off of the massive Mothership Zeta, orbiting Earth miles above the Capital Wasteland. Mothership Zeta takes Fallout 3 in an entirely new direction – outer space. Meet new characters and join with them in a desperate bid to escape the Aliens’ clutches. To do so, you’ll wield powerful new weapons, like the Alien Atomizer, Alien Disintegrator, and Drone Cannon, and deck yourself out in brand new outfits, like the Gemini-Era Spacesuit and even Samurai Armor.

This is the Fifth and Final Add-On for the Fallout 3 Universe and is released on the 8th of October on the Playstation Store.

In Mothership Zeta the aliens have returned and they are not happy. An alien mothership abducts the player, making the whole add-on take place onboard of the alien ship in orbit around Earth.

Onboard the Mothership, the questline is not completely linear and features some exploration. You are able to take a spacewalk and you encounter other abductees, who are all fictional characters from the Wasteland and Earth's past.

The player is able to return to the ship once the main quest is over and to use the ship as a "home-base" of sorts.

For a good source of all things Fallout I recommend The Vault

I have had to restart the whole game again because my previous saves were on the older PS3 that broke on me and I forgot to back them up. However thanks to the add-ons I feel that restarting the game would be worth it and looking forward to going through it all again.

Its like Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion... Cept with Guns... and Nukes... and no Elves... and things that look like trolls... and explody body parts....

*Squeels like a schoolgirl*

I second that suggestion about The Vault. Excellent site.
I second that second suggestion about getting the FO:GotY edition on 10 - 13. I own the original, and intend to trade it in...to cut down the price of getting the GotY. I could just get the DLC, but I'd rather have the disc. Personal preference.
This is an excellent game to begin with, and the DLC changes the only problems I had with it. Namely, the ending and low level cap. Highly recommended, imho.
Yeah, a lot like Oblivion. No elves, but there is an Ent. Sort of.
